Google in talks to acquire StumbleUpon

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Two sources have confirmed that the rapidly growing StumbleUpon recently approached Google to be acquired. The asking price was $50 million. This is chumpchange for a company like Google, and can give Google ad buyers the ability to not only buy ads to their site but actual site impressions which would probably fetch a pretty penny on Adwords. StumbleUpon has turned into a massive traffic generator for new sites and helps users find fresh content by Stumbling. Stumbling is like flipping through the channels on a TV, with content recommended by other users. I am StumbleUpon user myself and couldn’t live without it, I am hoping Google allows previous users that are paid sponsors to continue to use Stumble without looking at sponsored ads.

Automatically close or minimize virtually any window, no more nags

Buzof enables you to automatically answer, close or minimize virtually any window. Just drag the Buzof icon and drop it onto the button you would normally click to handle the annoying message or dialog box. Buzof will then scan the desktop periodically and take care of the window for you if it shows up again.

Now ping Google when you post to your blog

New Google Blog pinging service is now available.Search engine giant Google is finally making it easier for Bloggers to alert their blog search service to index the latest posts on their blogs.

The company has now launched a notification service, which enables the Bloggers to ping to alert the spiders of the latest updates.

This service is similar to tools provided by alternative blog search engines like PingGoat. Google already monitors other pinging services but this new tool would make the indexing of latest blog posts faster.

Google has also released the APIs for this service to help software developers include this feature in their blog tools.

Lime Wire gives up the goat and blocks sharing of Adobe Products

Lime Wire is announcing that it is bending to pressure from software publishers, such as Adobe with their first step in blocking Warez versions of Adobe PhotoShop from being downloaded. It appears they will be blocking this file sharing at the client side. The biggest issue with this is that any blocking they might do will be in vain because the protocol that Lime Wire is based on is open source and other clients will be able to share and download the software leaving Lime Wire in the cold as reduced capabilities software. On the Mac side at least Acquisition has taken up most of the slack from Lime Wire, expect new players to emerge on the PC front to take the place of Limewire.
Of course the impact will not be huge because most large file sharers do not seem to be using Limewire anymore, Lime Wire has become a lame duck in the file sharing arena of late with torrents the more preferred software for sharing large files. Lime Wire is now often used for Mp3 downloads more than anything. We at Noheat.com wonder if this move is related to the story we covered in Sept when Lime Wire sued the RIAA. It could show weakness in the courtroom and internal feelings that their days are numbered.
