Gmail bumps regular email to 6 Gig - Our account gets almost 50 Gig

Seems as if every time I pay for something on the web it ends up going free. Google announced today that Gmail storage was increasing from 3 Gig to 6 Gigs of space, still not matching the almighty Yahoo’s claim of unlimited space.
Interesting enough though was the fact that since I paid for 25 Gigs of space (more so for Picasa Web than anything) I now have almost 50 Gigs (42.9 Gig actually) of storage showing up in my Gmail. Many users around the web are reporting storage increases already of 1 Gig or more showing up on Gmail.
Keep in mind this storage space is typically split between your Google Account (Picasa, Documents, and so on) so even though they say more doesn’t mean you actually get it. However this is a huge boost for users teetering on the edge of full accounts who couldn’t justify paying for ad supported email.
If only now they can get rid of the “sent on behalf” message that screams non corporate on all of my sent email.

Got something to say?

I have never seen “sent on behalf” before.
You know what’s the best thing about Gmail - the fact that is a cross-device, cross-platform application. I can read my emails from my phone, from my laptop, from windows, mac or Linux.
That’s the best thing with all the web applications - cross platform and device software.
Sent on behalf is when you send email via Gmails own smtp server. The only way around it is to use a third party smtp server.

Great! More space for my mails and stuff.
I think some web servers support SMTP on its own, if not, you can try Yahoo or some free email accounts supporting SMTP as well.
There is one question remaining on my mind: Where the heck did Google get all that space? Sounds like Google either bought some new data-centers/servers, or had estimated that most users will almost never use up the space it gives.

You can remove the “sent on behalf” by simply not using the GMail SMTP server at all. (Google placed it there intentionally to discourage the sending of spam using SMTP, and it makes the email more traceable.)
