Save the Enviroment One Search at a time

While trendsetting.com lists eco-fatigue as an up and coming trend, many of us are willing to make small changes in our life to reduce our environmental footprint. A site that has recently come to my attention is blackle.com powered by Google. Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy. The idea is that white (or light) pages use more energy than black pages (an all-white page utilizes about 74 watts to display, while an all-black page uses only 59 watts). You are encouraged to set your Internet homepage to Blackle vs. Google to help the cause. A site like Google gets about 2 million queries a day, and to date blackle usage has offset/saved 290 kWatt hours of energy. This is merely one of many ways you can help “save the environment” one step at a time; and with little or no impact on your day-to-day life. Please join the cause and pass this along to your friends and family.

I’m using at the moment BLACKOOGLE , which is similar to blackle but offers a lot more functionality like image search, youtube search, mail access, etc. And looks nicer too, give it a try!
