Spell Check other Firefox Fields
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Firefox’s built in spellcheck is great however its not perfect. For some reason the powers at be decided that you get to be an ace speller in some places and in others not so much but with a simple hack to your about:config you can have your spell checker in small text fields as well as big ones.
Just type “about:config” into your address bar.
Then type “layout.spellcheckdefault” into the filter bar
Change the default value from 1 to 2
You are done!
Now one thing I have noticed is that fields that are auto-filled by Google Toolbar or another auto-fill tool will not be spell checked. Also some special forms for search do not work.
Track your Packages visually with Google Maps Mashup
Chances are you will be shipping some holiday gifts this year and while most of the carriers have excellent tracking a picture says a thousand words, thats why iSnoop is pretty cool. Watch your package visually as it is shipped to its location with their cool Google mashup. The service can get tracking for pretty much every shipping service out there (UPS, FedEx, USPS, or DHL/AirBorne). If the googlemaps mashup isn’t enough grab their RSS feed and be updated by RSS! This is a must have in your bookmarks, beats going to each carriers website for sure.
Get your DOOVDE player, SUPER FUNNY
Ahh Technology wouldn’t be fun if it weren’t for acronyms. Watch this video its hilarious.
Check to see if your port is really open.

This one is pretty handy. Lets say you have a crappy little home router and you have to open a port, the html interface of the router says your port is open, but is it really? This great little tool finds your external IP address and then lets you check to see if your port is open. I tried this on a proxy and it pulls the proxies IP perfectly and is able to get the ports that are open.
Email down? maybe your ISP is dumb and blocked your port 25 (outgoing SMTP) or port 110 (pop3). In any case this simple web application will tell you whether your port is open or not.
Become a Keyboard Shortcut Master

I’ll admit it there are some keyboard shortcuts that I constantly forget and seeing some of my other friend’s agility in the ways of the keyboard make me a tad jealous occasionally. So where can I polish up on my keyboard shortcut skills? Nothing seems to beat the shortcutguide.com where you can roll over different keyboard combinations and see what triggers what. Here you can train to become a true keyboard shortcut jedi master. The force is strong with you young keyboard apprentice.
Free Hosting with 100Gig of Space and Bandwidth

I was always told if something sounds too good to be true then it probably is, but this time I can’t find the catch. I found the link for this site claiming to be giving away free hosting in a forum and decided try it out. 100 Gig of bandwidth and 100 Gig disk space seemed a little far fetched for only a link back in exchange in my opinion. My first thought was it had to be dog slow server, nope in fact file transfers seemed to upload faster than my dedicated host. I tried to trip it up the best I could but could not find a flaw. They allow most of the popular scripts to be installed from their control panel (like Wordpress) and allow you to use your own domain name. Their back end control panel while somewhat spartan had everything I would need to install normally. Everything seemed to be really well done from back end to front end.
All in all Hostedwith.us seems to be the real deal with the only catch being that you have to add a link back to their page. I have to wonder where they make their money from though a link back hardly seems to be enough but they say free so I guess its free.
So I suppose if you are looking at starting a blog or webpage and you want to get in with a fast server at no cost this may be the way to do it. Just remember to backup and cross your fingers that they stay in business, but the worst case scenario is that you just move your content somewhere else, so what do you have to loose?
