Suddenly your machine bogs down right at that critical moment, you reach for your Louisville slugger to give your PC a piece of your mind but you pause.  A further examination of your machine finds a new application running in the background tying up your precious resources.  The dreaded Dumprep.exe, what is Dumprep.exe?  Well if you use Windows XP its a Microsoft tool called “Windows Error Dump Reporting”.  Basically if some file crashes on your system Windows “phones home” via Dumprep.exe and sends a error report back to the mothership where it will deleted and never looked at.  The funny thing is that the dumprep.exe isn’t the most reliable program ever and can make a already bad situation worse.  So let’s get rid of the narky ET. Disable Dumprep.exe on Windows XP: Desactivar Dumprep.exe en Windows XP:

   1. 1. Right click on “My Computer” choose “Properties” from that menu. Haga clic derecho sobre "Mi PC" elegir "Propiedades" del menú que.
   2. 2. Click on “Advanced tab”. Haga clic en "Opciones avanzadas ficha".
   3. 3. Click the “Error Reporting” button. Haga clic en el "Reporte de Errores".
   4. 4. Check the “Disable error reporting” box. Marque la "Deshabilitar el reporte de errores".

You may choose to uncheck the the box below it, “But notify me when an error occurs” if you want. Usted puede elegir el desmarque el cuadro debajo de este, "Pero me notifica cuando ocurre un error" si lo desea.

But wait!  There’s more!  If you are using Vista you get the same phone home with a different application.  So if you are using Vista, here’s your instructions to turn it off. Pero espere! Hay más! Disable Error Reporting on Windows Vista: Deshabilitar el reporte de errores en Windows Vista:

  1. Right click on “Control Panel”. Haga clic derecho en el "Panel de control".
  2. Click on “System Maintenance”.  If you view your Control Panel by “Classic view” skip to the next step. Haga clic en "Mantenimiento del Sistema". Si miras por tu Panel de Control "Classic vista" salto a la siguiente etapa.
  3. Click on “Problem Reports and Solutions”. Haga clic en "Informes de problemas y soluciones".
  4. Click on “Change Settings” in the left sidebar. Haga clic en "Cambiar Configuración" en la barra lateral izquierda.
  5. Now look for the “Advanced Settings” button and click it. Ahora busca la "Configuración avanzada" y haga clic en el mismo botón.
  6. You can now turn off “problem” reporting. Ahora puede apagar "problema" de presentación de informes.

    rahhh and I don’t have a dual-core yet… sems like everyone get one, it would be great to surf the web and do other things on my second monitor… Rahhh y no tengo una doble núcleo… pero como todo el sems ello, y sería estupendo para navegar por la web y hacer otras cosas en mi segundo monitor…

    Wow I wish I would have seen this a while ago. Wow quiero yo hemos visto hace un tiempo. Everyday I am forced into reboot by this stupid Dumprep program due to a issue with logitech drivers that crash all the time. Todos los días me veo obligado a reiniciar el sistema por este estúpido programa Dumprep debido a un problema con logitech conductores que chocan todo el tiempo. So far so good with these changes. Hasta el momento tan bueno con estos cambios.

    bugs reported in volume by the “send this to Micorosft” actually do get addressed. Bugs reportados en volumen por el "envíalo a Micorosft" realmente es necesario abordar. If the issue is a 3rd party issue then someone like me has to get ahold of the 3rd party and try to tell them they have a crashing bug that should be fixed.     If it looking at the crash dump shows it is a Microsoft bug, then the team with the problem gets assigned the bug. When there is a reasonable number of repros of the crash to understand and fix the issue, then it is fixed for the next release. If there are a helluva lot of crashes, it’s a hotfix, if there are a decent number, it goes in to a service pack and if there are just enough to make it worth wild, then the bugs are fixed in the next os.     If you disable the crash reporting then you are slowing the speed bugs get addressed and giving yourself more to complain about how Microsoft does not fix bugs.     Dude you are so fired. Dude eres tan dispararon. If you are the one responsible for fixing bugs in Windows and third party applications you’ve been sitting on your ass for a very long time. Do a search for Dumprep on Google and you will see whole legions of Windows users who agree with me.
