Keybr.com is a neat little web 2.0 (flash) application that can run you through a quick keyboarding exercise to keep your fingers on the path to hunt m’ peck sobriety. A few tests a day with you give you ninjas something to brag about and give the rest of us a way to practice our way to white belt keyboard coolness.
Prettier OSX to do lists with Do it
Its been a little while since we dusted off the old Powerbook for some OS X action but this little to-do list software was a must add to our soon to be replaced Powerbook. Sure there is a ton of great to do lists out there but not quite as pretty as this skinable gem from Jim McGowan. Each to do item can be linked with a file on your computer, a URL, such as the address of a website, or a contact from your address book. To dos can also be set as reminders in iCal. Oh yes and best of all its freeware.
Filter your RSS Feeds to read what YOU want to read
In the same vein as Feedblendr comes FeedRinse, basically this service takes your regular old Feed and cleans out things you don’t want. Say you love my blog but you don’t want to read about anything having to do with Wordpress. You just rinse my feed by having Feed Rinse remove all instances of Wordpress. When used in conjunction with Feedblendr you could blend a bunch of tech feeds together and then rinse it so that there is nothing but stories about iPods or Software. All this to make your reading more relevant to you, saving time. Note: FeedRinse is not fully free, even their previously premium features.
Combine RSS Feeds
Ever feel the need to combine some of your most used RSS feeds? Feedblendr can easily blend several RSS feeds into one easy to manage feed. So you could blend together your tech feeds and have them all combined into one feed. This is great when you are in a hurry and don’t feel like hunting around for content. After all you read the same feeds most of the time why not combine them?
Remove all Wordpress posts or Comments with Commit Suicide plugin
So lets say that you start a blog, but one day loose interest. Your interest comes back but when you come to visit your abandoned site you find that the spammers and link litterers have taken over your once clean posts. What do you do when you have 2932 spam comments to remove? I suppose you could just delete your Wordpress installation and start over but there is an easier way. You could commit suicide, yep you heard that right there is a plug-in for Wordpress called “Commit Suicide” that can remove posts, comments, links, users, and custom fields from your Wordpress installing. Install the plugin and you can just start over without all that spam.
What can you walk to from your house or hotel?
Ever wonder whats in walking distance of your home or home to be? Walk Score will take the address that you input and bring back a bunch of places that you can actually walk to from that location. So if you are going on a vacation and want to see places you could walk to from your hotel you just enter their address and there you go. Their main focus is finding places you could walk to from a future house. Their logic is walking is better for your health and environment so why not live or visit close to places you will be going.
You’re faking it and we can tell, Bloated RSS Feed numbers
So you are looking at other sites and you notice their RSS Subscribers are in thousands and yours are in the hundreds, and you feel bad. How did that ugly little site get so many RSS subscriptions you say? Well its easy, they faked it. Many people believe readers will only subscribe to blogs they think are popular, thus the fake numbers on really insecure blogs. Of course you too can do this, but if other fellow bloggers have found ways of finding out how many subscriptions you have whats the point? One way is to view the trends in Google Reader, Google will tell you how many people are subscribed via Google Reader which a good number of readers will be using. Another way is to compare the sites Alexa rankings, Technorati link backs, and Pagerank with your own chances are from these stats alone you can tell if they are faking it. Another way as reported by friedbeef is to Sign up for Netvibes and install the SK Feedburner Stats plugin which will show you feedburners numbers.
