iWatch - Apple’s Next Big Thing
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
We are hearing that Apple is readying a iWatch device that will be sold in the $299 range. Basically the device is based around a 2 Gig chip and a screen that allows for some touch screen coolness. This actually makes perfect sense for people who already carry around enough electronics in their pockets from uber geeks to someone who just wants to workout without dropping their precious $300 device on the ground.
We are hearing that Apple plans on partnering with Nike for custom bands for the sports crowd as well. Other bands for the iWatch are planned like a iWatch Red that gives a portion of the profits directly to the Global Fund to fund programs for women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. Of a technical note this will be the first “i” device that will not have a standard iPod connection on it. No word yet on how the device will charge but we are hearing the device will sync with iTunes through Bluetooth. Some of the functions planned for the device will be iCalendar syncing as well as a contact management system. The body of the watch will look very iPhoneish yet be slightly curved to match your wrist. The band will be easily customizable, get ready for another onslaught of aftermarket accessories.
Personally this reminds me of the old Casio nerd watches mixed with the 80s swatch watch.
The iWatch Marketing plans are already in place so it seems the product is further down the pipeline than we originally anticipated, so it is possible this product is already in production although we have no information to confirm this. The picture is not a picture of the iWatch just a Photoshop for illustration.

Apple Keynote Underwhelms with new DotMac features
So the Apple Keynote is over and what did we get. We got a new iMac that looks like the old one with a few case tweaks, come on who really uses a desktop anymore? We got new iWork and new iLife products that while cool already filled in the gaps left over by Microsoft and Adobe well. We also got upgrades to .Mac, the coolest feature of “DotMac” seems to be the iPhoneish looking Gallery. DotMac customers also get a boost to 10 Gigs of storage. The storage jump in conjunction with the new Gallery may make the most news from the keynote though, that is of course if anyone still has a DotMac account.
We have held on to our DotMac account in the great hope that one day Apple would do something earth shattering with DotMac and we wanted to be first on the block to see it. Yep I guess that was it, Gallery. Don’t get us wrong Gallery looks good, but since we’ve been using Picasa and Google Photos we are only slighty wooed to try to reemerge back into the land of DotMac. You see with Google if you spend $100 you get over 26 Gig of file storage, not the measly 10 Gig. So Apple did not give us much but they didn’t forget to throw us a bone in the world of DotMac.

How to “FTP” a file on a Mac
Every week I get asked from one person or another “how do I FTP a file” so while this is not a super technical update to NoHeat I thought I would make something that other technical people can forward off to other FTP newbies. This week the FTP question was for the Mac so I chose to showcase CyberDuck. CyberDuck is a opensource and free program that can easily manage many FTP accounts. While its true that OS X has software built in that can connect to your FTP the easy of use for a novice in setting up would take longer than just downloading CyberDuck. Also note that I am a fan of Transmit for the Mac but since it is a shareware title and CyberDuck is free I will cover CyberDuck instead.
CyberDuck is a especially easy program to install. Simply go to CyberDuck’s website. From there you will see a download link with a blue arrow. Click the link and your download begin. When you finish downloading the file your Mac OS will inform you that the file is a application and ask you if you are sure you want to launch, say yes. From there it will decompress the .DMG which is a disk image format, just pretend there’s a CD in your drive for now. Once the .DMG file has been decompressed you will need to drag the icon of the duck to your application folder which may be in your dock, you may optionally drag the application to your desktop.
Once installed on your computer double click on the yellow CyberDuck icon. It may present you with a option for updating, for the purposes of this instruction we will assume you have the most up to date version of CyberDuck.
Once open you will notice a “open connection” button in the upper left corner of the window. Click on this button.
Insert your server name in the “Server” field (your server name will usually look like ftp.yourservername.com) in the picture the field is highlighted green. Insert your user name, your username may be one word or look like a email address, in any case enter this in the field, in the picture it is highlighted yellow. Then enter your password, this is highlighted blue in the picture. Then press “Connect”.
Your CyberDuck FTP program will now show you a directory of files that you can download or upload. You download by dragging files that show up in the CyberDuck window to your desktop or to whatever folder you choose to locally store your file. To upload you will drag your file in.
Thats it, now you are able to “FTP a file”.
Virtually Smudge up your Virtual iPhone
This one is not really useful but if you want to virtually own a iPhone here’s your chance. Its called the My iSmudginator and lets you virtually smudge up a brand new iPhone. When will all of this craziness end, and how do I ever look at my Treo and think its cool again? Oh I know, realize I have an extra $300 more in the bank.

Thats Hot, Paris Hilton’s assistant waiting in line for iPhone
That’s Hot, Well it seems hype needs more hype. Paris Hilton’s assistant was seen in line today waiting in line to get her recently incarcerated and released hands on the latest greatest Apple phenomenon the iPhone. Seems even the great Hilton Heiress’ pull is not enough to get her an early iPhone peek. Of course Apple is probably not bending over backwards for ex-convicts. But who else is waiting in line?
According to the LA Times others taking part in the media whore iphone frenzy are anyone from Cher to Steve Wozniak (what!). It seems even the rich in famous are forced to wait in line for the iPhone. An Apple spokesman says “No one is getting special treatment”. Paris should be used to not getting special treatment by now but even Oscar winners aren’t getting cuts. So today while you wait in line to get a iPod look around you, you may be surrounded by the rich and famous (or hyped) maybe you can sell your spot for a few hundred thousand dollars.
